Groupe US originaire de New York, les "Nitty Gritty Dirt Band" ont été fondé en 1965. Ils obtiennent un premier succès au début des années soixante-dix chez United Artists Records. Toujours en activité, cette formation historique issue du Old Time, du Rock, du Blue Grass, du Country And Western s'est par la suite tournée vers le Country Rock Californien, sans retrouver leur succès des seventies.
