Il est surtout connu pour avoir écrit les chansons « Git It » et « Somebody Help Me », reprises par Gene Vincent. Il a fondé les labels Libra Records et Creole Records. Au milieu des années 1970, il s'est installé à Las Vegas, où il a joué avec son groupe Expression. Bob Kelly est décédé le 20 Février 2024 à Las Vegas (Nevada).
