Objet : Hello ! Salut à toi Rocky,
Un petit bonjour du 49, pour te dire combien j'ai été scotché par ton site. Je suis moi-même un fan de rock, surtout dans sa version première "rockabilly", mais aussi (et surtout ??) de country music. Et depuis quelques années danseur. Ton site est une mine sans fin d'infos. C'est incroyable cette richesse. Il y a derrière tout ça des heures de recherche. Bravo et merci pour ce travail. J'avais en fait découvert ton site il y a quelques mois et j'avais particulièrement apprécié une petite mise au point à propos des musiques rencontrées actuellement dans les bals. Malheureusement, je n'ai pas fait de copie écran, et aujourd'hui j'aurais aimé retrouvé ce texte où tu disais "pratiquer la country depuis des années....", et où tu parlais de continuer "à chausser tes bottes". Si tu as toujours dans un coin ce texte, j'aimerais en avoir une copie. Il était très bien construit, concis et sans ambigüité. Si tu le peux....et si tu le veux bien. Si j'ose : pourquoi l'avoir retiré ? Il est effectivement affligeant de voir des bals "country" dériver vers des waka waka, brazil ou autre crazy foot mambo (à quand la version de Claude François ?) J'ai la chance de pratiquer dans un club intransigeant sur ce point (même le "celtique" est au compte gouttes). Mais effet de mode, même des clubs sportifs ont leur section "country". Sans commentaire sur ce qui s'y pratique, sur le niveau et sur les enseignants..... Le risque étant que, comme en Angleterre, des bals "country" se retrouvent avec plus de 50% de musiques non country (actuellement, la moyenne en France est de 5 à 10%). J'arrête ma prose, ce serait trop long ! J'ai utilisé le tutoiement, comme il est de coutume en "country attitude". De plus, je pense que la différence d'âge ne doit pas être énorme (I was born in 1950). Merci d'avance pour ton texte, et de toute manière, merci pour ton magnifique site. J'ai rechercher Dice, sur le web, on trouve bien des labels sous ce nom,
mais ils ont été crée plus tard (dans les années 80) ou bien ils sont
anglais.
Désolé de n'avoir rien trouvé.

Hello,
My
name is Gary Scott. I am the nephew of Rick Scott who used to be
the drummer for
Alabama.
I'm also the son of Arliss Scott who played rhythm and gut
string guitar on the Wildcountry Deuces Wild album and on the My
Home's in Alabama album.
I
found your site while doing a Google search on Wildcountry/Alabama.
I noticed in your biographical information on
Alabama
that you say Mark Herndon was hired and gave the group its
signature sound. This is not correct. Mark is a fine drummer,
but he pales in comparison to the man who truly helped the
supergroup develop its sound. (Rick was so crucial to their
sound that the group nearly disbanded when he left. This is
stated by Teddy and Randy in a CMT documentary on Alabama).
Rick Scott is the drummer who helped create the nearly rock and
roll sound that made Alabama stand out. He and Teddy Gentry used
to rehearse together for hours on drum and bass parts and worked
out the incredible arrangements that you hear on the Wildcountry
album and on the My Home's in Alabama album. If you listen
closely, you can hear a definite difference in the drumming
styles on the My Home's in Alabama Album and every album
thereafter. That's because Rick is the drummer on every track of
the My Home's in Alabama Album.
A
little history on Rick:
My
uncle Rick Scott grew up playing rock in clubs in the Cincinnati
and Dayton areas in Ohio. He was into Led Zeppelin, Jimi
Hendrix, Deep Purple, Cream and all of the other very heavy rock
bands of that era. Country music never crossed his mind. My
father Arliss knew Randy, Teddy and Jeff first. He met them
through George Lewis who owned LSI studios in Nashville. George
believed in them and allowed them to record for free after hours
in his studio. When they made the decision to go totally
professional, they needed a drummer who could help them develop
the sound they were looking for. George told my father that they
were looking for a drummer. My father went to Middletown, Ohio
and brought his brother Rick back to Nashville for an audition.
The first song Rick played with them, they were dumbfounded. He
was more than they had dreamed of.
After that fateful day, Rick went to work with them touring all
over in a beat up van and playing in the Bowery in Myrtle Beach,
South Carolina. He played on all of their albums through My
Home's in Alabama and is co-writer on several of the songs on
that quadruple platinum album.
Sadly, Rick grew tired of all the squabbling amongst the cousins
and was not satisfied creatively, so he decided to move on.
After leaving Alabama, he went on to play for
Earl Thomas Conley.
He nearly had Teddy Gentry convinced to leave the band and go to
work with Earl too. Wisely, Teddy decided to tough it out with
Alabama.
Rick introduced them to Mark Herndon...and the rest is country
music history.
Sorry to take up too much of your time. I just felt compelled to
help set the record straight. :)

I was able to get the information I needed, that I
couldn't find any place else. Your site has a lot of
information.
I am a presenter (DJ) at
TANKFM 103.1
here in Kempsey, NSW Australia. My
programs, 8:00pm on Wednesday and 7:00pm Saturday
are all American music from 1954 - 1964, the true
Rock N Roll Era.
At 11:00pm on Saturday I switch to American Country
music. Most of my country music is from the '40s to
the '60s. All original Artist and 99.999% original
tracks.
